COLOMBO (News 1st); A special unit has been established at the Colombo Women’s and Children’s headquarters in respect of monitoring child pornography uploaded to social media, Police Media Spokesperson SDIG Ajith Rohana says.
A person who was arrested in the Badalkumbura area yesterday (07) has been found to have uploaded more than 500 images and videos of child pornographic content to Facebook, Viber, Whatsapp, and other social media networks.
The suspect was produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court yesterday (07) and has been remanded until 20 August 2021.
Moreover, Police have also identified 10 more persons who have uploaded child pornographic content to social media and had deployed a special team to arrest them in the following days. Within the past week, the ten suspects have uploaded more than 1,500 video clips and images 0f child pornographic content, SDIG Rohana said.
The relevant suspects will be dealt with concerning the obscene publications act and the Penal code of Sri Lanka, the Police Spokesperson added.
