COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Labour Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva told Parliament on Wednesday (04) that social media platforms are 90% responsible for incidents of child abuse.

‘There is no law that regulates social media or suppresses such content,’ said the Minister.

Social Media is banned in China, said Minister De Silva adding Sri Lanka must not adopt a policy that is similar to deciding to close the stable door after the horse has bolted.

It is impossible to prevent incidents of child abuse if we do not have a mechanism to regulate or ban social media, said the Minister.
