01 km stretch of Yala Buffer Zone allegedly cleared

COLOMBO (News 1st); Reports have emerged to claim that the forest cover located in the Buffer Zone of the Yala National Park is being cleared illegally.

National Organizer of the All Ceylon Farmers’ Federation – Namal Karunaratne visited the said area on Tuesday (03) to determine of these claims were true.

Several trees have been cut and burnt in the highland area above the Rotawala Wewa which is located in the Buffer Zone of the Yala National Park.

According to our correspondent, forest land spanning a kilometer has been cleared in this manner.
