X-Press Pearl : Wreck removal plan being developed; Latest statement from Justice Ministry

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Committee appointed to investigate the damages caused to Sri Lanka by the X-Press Pearl disaster says a wreck removal plan is being developed.

The task is undertaken by Global Salvage Consultant with a group of salvage experts, naval architects and salvage engineers from the Netherland and Singapore.

P&I Club and the international salvage experts are of the view that the wreck removal operation will take place once the prevailing monsoon weather is settled. The experts are also of the view that the prevailing adverse weather condition due to monsoon is not favorable to undertake such operation immediately.

However, Sri Lankan authorities are negotiating with the respective authorities to expedite the process and until such time, the vessel owners have engaged RESOLVE MARINE as the interim caretaker of the wreck.
