COLOMBO (News 1st); Gas companies had requested a price hike of Rs. 751/-, revealed Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena on Tuesday (20) adding that the President has stressed the government would bear the cost without burdening the people due to the pandemic situation.
He said the Finance Ministry had appointed a special committee to manage the situation and this committee would explore various options.
He assured the state-owned gas companies will ensure there is no gas shortage in the country adding that the government would intervene if Laugf Gas is not able to import gas to the country.
In addition, the Cabinet of the Minister has reached a decision to reduce the price of an 18-liter gas cylinder and the new selling price will be Rs. 1,150/-.
State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna told reporters that the 12.5 kg cylinder will be sold for Rs. 1,495/- and when it is converted to 18 litres, the price will be Rs. 1,150/-.
