COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s The Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) says arrangements are being made to obtain a second interim claim for the damage caused by the fire on board the MV X-Press Pearl container ship.
Its chairperson, Attorney-at-Law Dharshani Lahadapura stated that the relevant files were referred to the Attorney General.
She stated that the Attorney General will submit the files to the shipping company and take necessary steps to obtain the second claim.
The government had earlier demanded $ 40 million in damages from the shipping company for the damage caused by the fire on the MV X-Press Pearl container ship.
Of this, $ 3.6 million, or 720 million rupees in interim compensation has been received so far.
