Sajith urges President to withdraw KDU bill

COLOMBO (News1st): Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has urged the President to withdraw the Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Bill. Issuing a statement, the opposition leader said he opposes the bill based on certain issues. He added that the proposed legislation is a threat to the system of free education in the country. In the statement, the opposition leader insisted that the system of education enjoyed by the people of this country for decades should not be destroyed. He added that amending the Universities Act without a proper discussion has pushed the education and higher education sectors into a crisis. Sajith Premadasa stressed that all forces, including the Maha Sangha, will unite to defeat any moves undertaken by the government to pass the bill arbitrarily.
