10 Children have so far died of COVID-19 at LRH

COLOMBO (News 1st); 10 children who were admitted to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children for COVID-19 have died so far, revealed Dr. G. Wijesuriya, the Director of LRH on Friday (16).

'The main for children to fall victim to the coronavirus is the negligence of parents and family members,' he said noting that most adults believe that by simply obtaining the vaccine there are free of COVID-19, therefore, they fail to follow the preventive measures.

He added that vaccination will help in minimizing the possibility of a person contracting the coronavirus, and falling critically ill due to COVID-19.

'Even if a person had obtained the vaccine, that person could still be a carrier of COVID-19,' he warned.

He urged parents must pay special attention to their children's health as they may not be aware that their child has been infected.

According to Dr. Wijesuriya, all parents and elders must ensure that children are protected and in the event, they develop symptoms to immediately seek medical attention.
