500g of drugs seized in operations on Tuesday (13)

COLOMBO (News 1st); A large number of Police Officers have been deployed to perform duties in respect of Covid-19, Senior DIG Ajith Rohana told News1st.

'We have not given up our conventional and traditional duties such as anti-narcotic operations, criminal investigations, and traffic management,' he added.

Yesterday anti-narcotic operations were conducted across the country and the sub-unit of the Police Narcotic Bureau of Mannar had arrested a 30-year-old individual, along with 420 grams of ICE(Methamphetamine), the Senior DIG said.

'The headquarter inspector of Polonnaruwa had received information about drug transportation. Accordingly, he had conducted a special roadblock on the bridge of Manampitiya and a suspicious vehicle had been checked by the Police team. A 32-year-old individual of the Hunupitiya area has been arrested along with 57 grams of Heroin and 14 grams of Ice (Methamphetamine) along with a motor car,' he said.

The total weight of the narcotic substances recovered yesterday is said to be 500 grams while it was valued at Rs.5 million.
