COLOMBO (News 1st); A minor flood warning was issued early on Saturday (10) for multiple areas located in the valleys of the Kelani River, Gin River and the Nilwala River, announced the Department of Irrigation.

Kelani River Basin:

A Considerable rainfall exceeding around 150 mm was reported in Upstream and Middle catchment areas of Kelani River Basin as of 4.00 AM on Saturday (10).

By analyzing the current rainfall situation and river water levels of Hydrological Stations in Kelani River, there is a possibility a Minor flood situation in low-lying areas of Kelani River valley situated in Dehiovita, Ruwanwella, Seethawaka, Dompe, Kaduwela, Biyagama, Kolonnawa and Wattala D/S Divisions within next 24 hours.

Nilwala River Basin:

A Minor flood situation is likely in low-lying areas of Nilwala River valley situated in Pasgoda, Kotapola, Pitabeddara, Akuressa, Athuraliya, Malimbada, Thihagoda, Matara and Devinuwara D/S Divisions within next 24 hours.

Gin River Basin:

A Minor flood situation is likely in low-lying areas of Gin Ganga valley situated in Welivitiya Divithura, Baddegama, Kotapola, Niyagama, Neluwa, Tawalama, Akmeemana, Nagoda, Elpitiya and Bope poddala D/S Divisions within next 24 hours.
