Fairly heavy showers exceeding 75 mm likely

COLOMBO (News 1st): Showery conditions over the Southwestern part, that is the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces of the island are likely to enhance during the next few days, the Department of Meteorology said on Thursday (Jul. 08). Moreover, the windy condition over the island and the surrounding sea areas are also likely to enhance during the next few days, particularly on the 09th and 10th of July. According to the Met Department, showers or thundershowers are likely at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, Southern, and Central provinces; fairly heavy showers exceeding 75 mm could be expected at some places. Showers or thundershowers could be expected in the Uva and Eastern provinces and in the Mullaitivu district during the evening hours or tonight. The general public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers, the Met Department added.
