COLOMBO (News 1st): Basil Rajapaksa will be sworn in as the National List Member of Parliament representing the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) today (Jul. 08).

Parliamentary proceedings will commence at 10:00 am today (08) under the patronage of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

According to Serjeant-at-Arms Narendra Fernando, Basil Rajapaksa will be sworn in as an MP at the beginning of today’s parliamentary session and he will be allotted the 09th front-row seat on the side of the government in parliament, reported the News 1st’s Parliamentary correspondent.

The National Elections Commission (NEC) issued an Extraordinary Gazette on Wednesday (Jul. 07) naming Basil Rajapaksa as a Member of Parliament.

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) named Basil Rajapaksa as a National List MP to replace Jayantha Ketagoda who stepped down as an MP on Tuesday (Jul. 06).
