Child-sex scandal shocks SL: Politicians, doctors in the net!

COLOMBO (News 1st); The cardiologist, who is also a lieutenant commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, and was arrested over the exploitation of a 15-year-old girl was remanded until the 09th of July by Colombo Additional Magistrate Lochana Abeywickrama on Tuesday (06).

Counsel appearing for the suspect informed the court that his client is willing to make a voluntary statement with regard to the incident.

The suspect will be produced in an identification parade, as per an order by the Colombo Additional Magistrate.

34 suspects have been arrested over the Mount Lavinia Child Sex Trafficking Ring said Sri Lanka Police.

The Colombo Additional Magistrate also on Tuesday (06) ordered the Prison Superintendent to produce the 09th, 11th, and 13th suspects in court tomorrow by concealing their identities.

These suspects are the Deputy Chairman of the Mihinthale Pradeshiya Sabha, a Gem Businessman from Balangoda, and a Millionaire Businessman from Kalutara.

The trio is currently in remand custody and counsel appearing for the suspects also informed the court that their clients are willing to make voluntary statements to the court with regard to the incident.

However, the request by counsel to cancel the identification parade, citing that they have already been remanded, was turned down by the Colombo Additional Magistrate.

In addition, the driver who transported the victim and the cardiologist to a hotel was also produced in court and remanded to the 19th of July.

Among the others arrested are the parents of the victim, a three-wheeler driver, a car driver, the individual who designed the advertisement, a captain of a ship, and several crew members as well as administrators and operators of several websites.

Maldives’ former state minister for finance and treasury is also among the arrested.

A 15-year-old girl was sexually exploited by an individual in Mount Lavinia via social media outlets and the main suspect in connection with the incident was arrested on the 07th of June, by a special team led by Headquarter-Inspector of Mount Lavinia.

The 15-year-old female victim had been exploited for three months and she had been handed over to various people to be exploited.
