Ruling faction MP defends decision allowing W. M. Mendis to resume operations

COLOMBO (News 1st); An MP from the ruling party have defended the decision taken to allow W.M. Mendis & Co Ltd to resume operations subject to condition.

W.M. Mendis & Co Ltd belongs to Arjun Aloysius who is named as a key accused in the infamous Central Bank Treasury Bond Scam, considered as the largest financial scam in Sri Lankan history.

SLPP MP Pradeep Undugoda said the government has not fallen to a level where it would want to seek revenge from an institution owed by a person who has committed a wrong.

'Investigations are ongoing,' he said adding that there is no wrong in the government intervening or assisting any business of Arjun Aloysius that can general an income.

He said the government, however, conducting an impartial investigation into the Central Bank Treasury Bond Scam.
