Govt. must address economic crisis : Prof. Piyadasa

COLOMBO (News1st): The government must take steps to address the economic crisis, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party's Senior Vice Chairman Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa has said. "The situation is so bad that our foreign currency reserves are lower than that in Afghanistan which has been affected by a longstanding war," he said Sunday. Prof. Piyadasa pointed out that the government is disbursing Rs 5000 relief allowances by printing money, resulting in an increase in exchange rates and a spike in the cost of goods. "They are engaging in commercial activities after sweeping massive tax scams under the carpet," the SLFP's Senior Vice Chairman added.
