COLOMBO (News 1st): The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) has taken measures to install 10 new Seismometers in areas closer to the Victoria Dam.
The respective equipment was received from Germany, Anura Walpola, the Chairman of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) told News 1st on Tuesday (Jun. 22).
Following the installation of the Seismometers, the magnitude of the tremors that are currently occurring near the Victoria Reservoir could be determined properly, Anura Walpola further noted.
According to the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB), exact details about the tremors reported in the area cannot be determined given the prevailing circumstances.
Seismometers have already been installed at Mahakanadarawa, Pallekele, Buddhangala, and Hakmana.
Several minor tremors were reported near the Victoria Dam in the recent past.
