Fatal accidents claim 11 lives in 24-hours: Police

COLOMBO (News 1st): Fatal road accidents have claimed the lives of 11 people in a 24-hour window that ended on Tuesday morning (Jun. 22), Sri Lanka Police said. "Eight deaths were reported due to accidents that occurred on Monday (Jun. 21), and the remaining three victims were those who sustained injuries due to accidents reported a few days back and succumbed to their injuries," Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st on Tuesday (Jun. 22). According to the statistics, six riders or pillion riders, two cyclists, two pedestrians, and one truck assistant had died in the accidents during the aforementioned period. "It has been observed that riders, cyclists, and pedestrians are the most vulnerable groups in respect of road accidents. Therefore, everyone must take precautionary measures to ensure road safety," Senior DIG Ajith Rohana stressed.
