Fertilizer shortage continues to plague farmers

COLOMBO (News1st):  Farmers have been visiting the Ibbagamuwa Agrarian Services Center since last evening upon learning that fertilizer will be provided. This comes amidst a massive fertilizer shortage that has affected farmers. "Ministers say there is fertilizer available, then where is it?" one farmer queried. "The Minister of Agriculture says there is fertilizer available. If that is the case, tell me where it is". Later, the farmers received a bundle of fertilizer worth Rs. 1500. Farmers of the Uva-Paranagama area are also seeking solutions to the ongoing fertilizer problem. Opposition members of the Welimada Pradeshiya Sabha staged a protest demanding a proper solution to the fertilizer problem. Three ruling party MPs also expressed their support. Meanwhile, farmers in Wilgamuwa gathered at the Hettipola Agrarian Services Center today to obtain fertilizer. Farmers also arrived at the Ambalantota Agrarian Services Center today to get information about a prospective date on which they will receive fertilizer.
