COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Consumer Affairs Authority said it will commence raids to locate businesses that have hidden stocks of sugar across the country.
Major General Shantha Dissanayake (Retd.) the Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority speaking to News 1st on Monday (21) said recently an extraordinary Gazette was issued directing individuals who stock corn, sugar, powdered milk, paddy and rice to register themselves with CAA within seven days, to prevent them from concealing the stocks.
Accordingly, importers, producers, mill owners, collectors, store owners, distributors or wholesale sellers will not be allowed to stock corn, sugar, powdered milk, paddy and rice in their possession without being registered with the CAA.
Major General Shantha Dissanayake (Retd.) said raids will be carried out to locate businesses that failed to register with the CAA.
