COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Health has decided to establish on-site Oxygen Plants at 15 hospitals across the island. The on-site Oxygen Plants will be established as an accelerated project that will cost around Rs. 1300 million; it will be carried out with funds from the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, the Health Ministry noted. It has been observed that establishing on-site Oxygen Plants focusing on hospitals in rural areas, is more effective than transporting Oxygen cylinders given the increasing rate of COVID-19 patients who require medical Oxygen, World Bank Project Director at the Ministry of Health - Dr. Jayasundara Bandara told News 1st on Saturday (Jun. 12). According to Dr. Jayasundara Bandara, these on-site Oxygen Plants will be established at hospitals located outside the Western Province, such as in Theldeniya, Rikillagaskada, Hambantota, Badulla, Puttalam, and Kurunegala. The treatment units for COVID-19 patients will also be expanded, as part of this project, Dr. Jayasundara Bandara further pointed out.
