Over 78,000 vehicles entered Colombo on Monday

COLOMBO (News 1st): A special survey conducted by Sri Lanka Police to monitor the vehicles entering the Colombo city found that over 78,000 vehicles entered the city on Monday (Jun. 07), whilst the island-wide travel restriction is in effect. The survey conducted from 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM on Monday (Jun. 07) found that 78,022 vehicles entered the Colombo city yesterday (07), Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st on Tuesday (Jun. 08) According to the Deputy Police Chief, of the total number of vehicles, the majority of 20,397 (26%) vehicles belonged to the Financial sector. Moreover, 9616 vehicles that entered the Colombo city on Monday (07) were of the health sector; while, 8,250 vehicles belonged to Tri-Forces and Police "Apart from that 976 vehicles that attempted to enter the Colombo city for no valid reason, were turned away; the drivers and the passengers were admonished," DIG Ajith Rohana noted.
