COLOMBO (News 1st): Parliament will convene at 10:00 AM today (Jun. 08), as per a decision reached by the party leaders on Monday (Jun. 07).
A decision was reached at the Committee on Parliamentary Business chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena on Monday (Jun. 07), to limit this week’s parliamentary sessions only to Tuesday (Jun. 08), taking into account the island-wide travel restriction, which is currently in effect in a bid to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Parliament sittings will be held today (08) from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Dhammika Dasanayake, the Secretary-General of Parliament said.
Accordingly, Second Reading of the Fiscal Management (Responsibility) (Amendment) Bill, Resolution under Section 8 of the Appropriation Act, No. 06 of 2020 and Regulations under the Imports & Exports (Control) Act, No. 01 of 1969 will be taken for debate from 10:00 AM until 12:00 noon.
The Motion at the Adjournment Time pertaining to the current situation in the country will be taken up by the Opposition from 12:00 noon to 4:30 PM today (08), Dhammika Dasanayake, the Secretary-General of Parliament further noted.
