COLOMBO (News 1st): Laggala Police on Monday (Jun. 07) arrested a 50-year-old individual who destroyed archaeological monuments situated in Nagolla in the Laggala Police jurisdiction, Sri Lanka Police said. "The Grama Niladhari of the respective area had lodged a complaint with the Police in connection with the offence. Thereafter, the Laggala Police made the arrest based on the investigations," Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st on Tuesday (Jun. 07). According to the Deputy Police Chief, the individual had destroyed the archaeological monuments by using a backhoe machine as per witnesses. Police are conducting further investigations to ascertain the evidence and to record statements in respect of the archaeological site, the Police Spokesperson noted. The suspect will be produced at the Naula Magistrate's Court on Monday (Jun. 08) and further investigations are underway.
