Housing facilities for families affected by Four-Lane Elevated Expressway

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal to provide housing facilities to 1,100 families affected due to the construction of the Four-Lane Elevated Expressway from the New Kelani Bridge to Athurugiriya, the Department of Government Information said. Accordingly, the government had identified the need to provide alternative settlement facilities for 1,100 families residing in the lands that were acquired for the project. These include families and subfamilies residing in encroached lands and the families residing in lands that are less than 06 perches in extent; as well as the families residing in the encroached lands in the proposed project site where the Dematagoda Stadium is set to be established, the Government Information Department noted. As such, the affected families will be provided with alternative housing facilities from the Kolonnawa, Henamulla, and Maligawatte housing projects that are implemented by the Urban Development Authority (UDA). Cabinet approval has already been granted to launch the construction project of the Four-Lane Elevated Expressway from the New Kelani Bridge to Athurugiriya.
