COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lanka Freedom Party has reprimanded the government over its handling of the X-PRESS PEARL disaster.

“This is a totally unnecessary issue for the country,” SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekera said, adding that the Sri Lanka Port Authority must be grilled for allowing such a vessel to anchor in Sri Lankan waters.

The situation is such that Sri Lanka’s marine environment is being destroyed, said Jayasekera who is also Sri Lanka’s State Minister of Batik, Handloom, and Local Apparel Products.

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party is hoping to speak to the government over the matter, he added.
