COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka is currently struggling to source the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to administer the second dose to those already given the first jab.

This is in a backdrop where allegations were raised against a decision to administer the second dose to the families of doctors, especially those attached to the Government Medical Officers Association.

However, the vaccination process took place at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children (LRH) on Tuesday (25) and large numbers were seen lining up for a chance to receive the jab.

The Public Health Inspectors who threatened to strike called off their action after an agreement was reached to provide the Sinipharm vaccine to all frontline health workers.

However, trade unions have slammed the government's decision to provide the second dose to the families of doctors while there are frontline health workers who are yet to receive the vaccine.
