Fairly heavy falls of 50 mm likely in WP and other areas

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at the Department of Meteorology on Wednesday (May 19) issued an advisory for the formation of a Low-Pressure Area in the East Central Bay of Bengal by Sunday (May 23). The showery condition over the South-western part of the island, that is the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces, and the windy condition over Northern and North-Western provinces are likely to enhance during the next few days, the Department of Meteorology said in its weather advisory issued on Thursday (May 20). Fairly heavy falls of about 50 mm could be expected at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. Showers or thundershowers are likely at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. The wind speed could increase up to 40-50 kmph at times in the Western slope of the Central hills, Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces and in Hambantota district, the weather advisory further noted.
