Ex-officio appointments needed for port city commission - Harsha

COLOMBO (News1st): The members of the port city economic commission must be appointed ex-officio, opposition lawmaker Dr. Harsha de Silva has said. "The Supreme Court has accepted the views of the government, that a majority of the members of the commission will be Sri Lankan," De Silva, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya lawmaker said. He pointed out that the parliamentarians will be allowed to decide the members who will be appointed to the commission. De Silva questioned how local businesses in the country will be encouraged to conduct operations when businesses at the Port City are granted more concessions. "This government that promised to protect local businesses is trying to make arbitrary decisions like this and destroy local businesses through this bill," the lawmaker pointed out.
