COLOMBO (News 1st) Prison inmates have been given the opportunity to connect with their relatives through video technology.
Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya said that the move was taken in view of the temporary suspension of visitation privileges to prison inmates.
Accordingly, by registering on the official website of the Department of Prisons, WWW.PRISONS.GOV.LK, relatives will have the opportunity to contact the inmates.
The Commissioner General of Prisons stated that one inmate will be given the opportunity to do so for 15 minutes a week.
Meanwhile, the Prisons Department has set up a special unit to provide information to relatives of prisoners infected with the coronavirus
Prisons Commissioner and Spokesperson Chandana Ekanayake said that relatives can only get information about COVID infected prisoners by calling 0114 677 101.
