COLOMBO (News1st): The Dambulla Dedicated Economic Centre has been closed down for 72 hours amidst a surge in COVID-19 cases. Dambulla Mayor Jaliya Opatha said that this decision had been made following the detection of 48 COVID-19 cases at the economic centre. Meanwhile, the arrival and departure lobby areas of the Bandaranaike International Airport have been closed for visitors until further notice as well. Our correspondent reported that 48 individuals had been arrested with the intervention of the Fort Police for flouting COVID-19 regulations at the Galle Face Green. The suspects had been arrested for failing to wear face masks and maintain social distancing. An operation was carried out in Gampaha today to monitor whether the public is abiding by COVID-19 regulations. State transport minister Dilum Amunugama said that operations will be carried out to arrest bus drivers who transport passengers while violating COVID-19 laws.
