COLOMBO (News1st): Attempts are being made to set up casinos at the Colombo Port City, United National Party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has said.

“According to the Port City Economic Commission Bill, casinos have been included among Off Shore Service Centres and Financial Centres,” Wickremesinghe said in a statement

He pointed out that the central banks of countries like, Dubai, Singapore, Mauritius, Hong Kong or Tokyo have not allowed the setting up of casinos.

“There are four casino licenses given to Sri Lanka. They might use two of them and bring the casino business here,” the UNP leader noted.

He questioned the reason as to why matters concerning the Port City are beyond the purview of the Parliament.

“Please do not destroy the future of our young generation by these ridiculous acts. We are already in dire straits,” Wickremesinghe requested.
