COLOMBO (News 1st): Road accidents have claimed 69 lives in the week of 13th to 19th April 2021, Sri Lanka Police noted.
“Within a period of 07-days since 13th April, 69 people have been killed in road accidents; this means that on average 10 people are killed in a day as a result of road traffic accidents,” Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st on Tuesday (Apr. 20).
Thereby, motorcycle riders, pillion riders, drivers, and passengers of three-wheelers have been identified as the most vulnerable with regard to the road system.
“We are conducting continuous traffic operations around the clock to arrest motorists who drive under the influence and to detect those who drive at excessive speeds. Therefore, all stakeholders should take preventive measures and contribute to ensure road safety,” the Deputy Police Chief sternly advised.
