Colombo (News 1st); The Deraniyagala Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman was arrested on Friday (16) for the possession of 98 stolen water meters from a project of the National Water Supply & Drainage Board.
Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said the Deraniyagala Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman will be charged in terms of the public property act, as the water meters are considered property of the state.
The Deraniyagala Police had recently received a complaint over the theft of 477 water meters and other equipment from the Kumburugamuwa stores of the National Water Supply & Drainage Board in Deraniyagala Police area, he said.
The complaint was filed by an engineer attached to the said project of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board.
A clerk and a driver attached to the same project were arrested following investigations and were produced in court in earlier.
