121 accidents & 14 fatalities in 24 hours - Police

14 people died on Wednesday (14) as a result of motor accidents, said Sri Lanka Police.

10 of these victims died as a result of accidents that took place on Wednesday (14) while the other 04 people met with accidents earlier in the week and succumbed to their injuries on Wednesday (14).

Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said a total of 121 motor accidents had taken place on Wednesday (14).

12 of these accidents took place on the expressway while the other 109 accidents took place in various parts of the country.

74 people were injured following the accidents on Wednesday (14), said the Deputy Police Chief who went on to note that a majority of the accidents involved motorcycles, as 53 motorcycles met with accidents in 24 hours.

Further, 30 three-wheelers were also involved in accidents on Wednesday (14).

Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said on average the highest number of motor accidents are reported during April, every year, while most of these accidents take place on the 14th & 15th of April.
