228 COVID infections and 02 fatalities reported on Friday (09) in Sri Lanka

Colombo (News 1st); The Director General of Health Services confirmed two deaths caused by Covid19 virus infection on Friday (09). Accordingly, the total number of deaths due to Covid19 infection in Sri Lanka is 595.

01. The deceased is a 66 year old female resident in Vavuniya. She was diagnosed as infected with Covid 19 virus while undergoing treatments at District Hospital Vavuniyawa and transferred to Base Hospital Homagama where she died on 08.04.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as Covid 19 pneumonia and septic shock. 02.The deceased is a 71 year old male resident in Yalwela. He was diagnosed as infected with Covid 19 virus while undergoing treatments at Base Hospital Bibila and transferred to Base Hospital Mulleriyawa where he died on 08.04.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as Covid pneumonia, heart disease and acute kidney disease, diabetes and high blood pressure. Also on Friday (09), a total of 228 COVID-19 cases were reported in Sri Lanka, said the Department of Government Information. 180 of these case were from the Peliyagoda Cluster, 03 from the Prison Cluster and 45 infections from among those who returned from overseas. According to the National Operations Center for the Prevention of the COVID-19 Outbreak the highest number of cases during the past 24 hours was reported from the Colombo District which is 58 infections, while 56 cases were recorded from the Jaffna District.
