05 Chinese nationals arrested for gambling in Bambalapitiya: Police

COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Police on Tuesday (Apr. 06) arrested five Chinese nationals in connection with operating an illegal gambling site located down Lauris Road in the Bambalapitiya Police area. The arrests were made during a special raid jointly conducted by the Bambalapitiya and Colpety Police, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st on Wednesday (Apr. 07). According to the Deputy Police Chief, a sum of Rs. 1 million and 88,500 and a sum of 2600 Chinese Yuan were seized from the gambling site. The five suspects were produced before the Magistrate's Court and Bambalapitiya Police are conducting further investigations. Elaborating on the arrests made on Tuesday (06), DIG Ajith Rohana emphasized that as per the Sri Lankan law gambling is prohibited, whereas permission must be obtained from the respective authorities prior to operating a gambling site.
