COLOMBO (News1st): The Colombo Port City Bill poses a threat to Sri Lanka's sovereignty, lawyer Shiral Lakthilaka has said. "Under this bill, an institute that competes against a government has been established as a commission," Lakthilaka, a member of the National Movement for Law Reforms noted. He pointed out that the bill also takes away the financial powers of the Parliament. "This bill paves the way for establishing a fund that will not fall under the purview of the parliament. It encourages activities such as betting, casinos and prostitution," Lakthilada added. He questioned whether legal action can be taken for violating the rights of an individual in the Port City.
