Substandard coconut oil imported : SLSI

COLOMBO (News1st): Tests carried out by the Sri Lanka Standards Institute have revealed that the stocks of coconut oil imported by one of the four importers are below the required standards. The Director General of the Sri Lanka Standards Institute, Dr. Siddika Senarathne said, the oil samples of the three other importers, are currently being tested. She added that the oil sample that was below standard had been subjected to testing twice. According to the director-general, the department of customs had informed the importer to re-export the coconut oil consignment that was found to be below standards. The Sri Lanka Standards Institute further said that the 13 controversial consignments of oil have been sealed, with the intervention of the Department of Customs.
