COLOMBO (News 1st): The Director-General of Health Services confirmed that THREE (03) COVID-19 deaths were reported in the country on Thursday (Mar. 25), raising Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 death toll to 557.
The details of the deceased are as follows:
01. A 79-year-old male from Passara. He died on 24.03.2021 while receiving treatment at Badulla General Hospital. The cause of death is mentioned as Ischemic Heart Disease complicated with Covid infection.
02. A 64-year-old male from Niriella. He was diagnosed as infected with the COVID-19 virus while receiving treatment at Ratnapura Teaching Hospital and transferred to Homagama Base Hospital, where he died on 24.03.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as Sepsis, Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus, Chronic Kidney Disease and Covid infection.
03. A 64-year-old male from Kandy. He was diagnosed as infected with the COVID-19 virus while receiving treatment at a private hospital and transferred to Theldeniya Base Hospital, where he died on 24.03.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as severe Covid pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome.
Meanwhile, another 271 new positive cases were reported on Thursday (Mar. 25), raising the COVID-19 caseload in the country to 91,289, the Department of Government Information said.
As of Friday morning (Mar. 26), there are 2854 active patients receiving treatment, while 87,881 have recovered.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 5972 people received the COVID-19 jab on Thursday (Mar. 25); and so far, 844,327 people have been vaccinated in the country.
