253 COVID infections & 02 fatalities reported on Wednesday (24)

Colombo (News 1st); 253 COVID-19 cases were reported from Sri Lanka on Wednesday (24), said the Department of Government Information.

229 cases were from the Peliyagoda Cluster and 09 were from the Prison Cluster. Also, 15 people who returned from overseas had also tested positive for the coronavirus. On Wednesday (24) 53 COVID-19 cases were detected from the Colombo District, while 42 COVID-19 infections were reported from the Gampaha District. In addition, 38 coronavirus cases were reported from the Jaffna District, while the 105 other COVID-19 cases were from various other parts of the country. The National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) said a total of 8,740 people are currently undergoing quarantine across 91 Quarantine Centers in the country. 7,350 PCR tests were carried out on Wednesday (24), said the NOCPCO. The Director-General of Health Services confirmed two deaths caused by Covid-19 virus infection on Wednesday (24). Accordingly, the total number of deaths due to Covid-19 infection in Sri Lanka is 554. 01.The deceased is a 65-year-old female resident from Colombo 15. She died on 21.03.2021at her residence and the cause of death is mentioned as Covid pneumonia and heart failure. 02.The deceased is a 76-year-old male resident from Kolonnawa. He was diagnosed as infected with Covid 19 virus while undergoing treatments at a private hospital and transferred to Kothalawala Defense University Hospital where he died on 24.03.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as COVID 19 Pneumonia with Acute Kidney Injury causing Multiple organ Failure.
