Decision on Ranjan's application on 31st March

Colombo (News 1st); The Court of Appeal on the 31st of March is to announce if it would allow the petition filed by Ranjan Ramanayake to be taken up for examination and for notice to be issued on the respondents.

This is with respect to the application filed by Ramanayake seeking an order to prevent any action from being taken against his parliamentary seat. Counsel Suren Fernando appearing for Ranjan Ramanayake requested the court to issue an order soon citing that if Ramanayake does not attend parliamentary sittings for three months consecutively, he would lose his seat in parliament. Considering this request, the Court of Appeal President ordered for the matter to be called up on the 31st of March. Ranjan Ramanayake in the application requests an order to be made on the Secretary-General of Parliament to refrain from taking any action with respect to his parliamentary seat. On the 12th of January, the Supreme Court found Ranjan Ramanayake guilty of contempt of court and sentenced him to 04 years in rigorous imprisonment.
