Colombo (News 1st); The UN Core Group resolution failed to secure a majority at the United Nations Human Rights Council Session on Tuesday (23), said Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

"The UN Core Group failed to secure 25 votes from the 47 member UNHRC," said the Foreign Minister. The call from a majority of the countries was to defeat COVID-19 first and provide the vaccination to over 100 countries, adding it was not the time for country-specific resolutions, said the Foreign Minister. Sri Lanka was appreciated by all countries that shared these views, he said adding that constitutionally Sri Lanka cannot go forward with the co-sponsored resolution and thus withdrew from it.
