Two local Politicos arrested for Assault: Police

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Bandaragama Police on Wednesday (Mar. 17) arrested a member of the Bandaragama Pradeshiya Sabha in Raigama of the Bandaragama Police area on charges of assault. "The 44-year-old Pradeshiya Sabha member was arrested on the charges of assault against a physically challenged soldier of Sri Lanka Army," Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st on Thursday (Mar. 18). The suspect was remanded till 1st April 2021 after being produced at the Panadura Magistrate's Court on Wednesday (Mar. 17). Separately, a member of the Biyagama Pradeshiya Sabha was arrested by Biyagama Police for the offence of criminal trespass and assault against several employees at a restaurant situated down Kottunna road, Biyagama. "The suspect aged 43-years was produced at the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) and the JMO had confirmed the suspect was under the influence when he committed the offence," Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st. The arrested councillor will be produced at the Biyagama Magistrate's Court today (18) and further investigations are being conducted by Biyagama Police.
