Cabraal also responsible over bond scams - Wasantha

COLOMBO (News1st): Former central bank governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal should also be blamed for previous bond scams, opposition politicians have said. "Just because they hold positions in the government does not mean they can escape the law," Wasantha Samarasinghe, a politburo member of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna said. He pointed out that former prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, and former central bank governor Arjun Mahendran should also be held accountable for the bond scams in 2015 and 2016. Pubudu Jayagoda, a politburo member of the Frontline Socialist Party, pointed out that a meeting was held to discuss the issuance of government securities on the day of the bond scam. "Former ministers Malik Samarawickreme and Kabir Hashim had attended this meeting. These ministers had no official responsibility concerning this subject area," Jagoda said. He added that some form of interference is preventing such individuals from being brought before the law.
