Villagers suffer due to lack of water

COLOMBO (News1st): Villagers in Siyambalawa, Rathmalwetiya, and Vadurussegama have been suffering for years, without clean drinking water. During the rainy season, these locals consume rainwater. But when there is no rain, they are compelled to drink the muddy water they obtain from the ground. "The villagers are suffering from kidney failure. Please help us, and solve our drinking water problem," one villager said. The Kurunegala District Office of the Department of National Community Water Supply had set up a village committee last year, to address the drinking water problem. "Rs 1000 was collected from all the villagers for the project. But none of them visited the village," a villager complained. Villagers say they will die of thirst as a result of being deceived by the false promises of officials.
