04 COVID-19 deaths on Friday (05); Fatalities rise to 493

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Director-General of Health Services confirmed that FOUR (04) COVID-19 deaths were reported in the country on Friday (Mar. 05), raising Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 death toll to 493. The details of the deceased are as follows: 01. A 39-year-old male from Atala. He was diagnosed as infected with the COVID-19 virus and transferred from Kegalle District Hospital to Kandy General Hospital where he died on 05.03.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as Covid pneumonia and acute kidney damage. 02. A 67-year-old male from Colombo 08. He was diagnosed as infected with COVID-19 while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo. Then he was transferred to Homagama Base Hospital, where he died on 05.03.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as Covid pneumonia, acute diabetes, and kidney disease. 03. An 81-year-old male from Colombo 10. He was diagnosed as infected with the COVID-19 virus and transferred from Colombo General Hospital to Homagama Base Hospital, where he died on 05.03.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as Covid pneumonia, high blood pressure, acute diabetes, and heart disease. 04. An 84-year-old female from Rajagiriya. She was diagnosed as infected with COVID-19 while receiving treatment at Colombo General Hospital and she was transferred to Mulleriyawa Base Hospital, where she died on 05.03.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as an acute kidney infection, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Meanwhile, another 181 new positive cases were reported on Friday (Mar. 05), raising the COVID-19 caseload in the country to 84,960. As of Saturday morning (Mar. 06), there are 3,146 active patients receiving treatment, while 81,321 have recovered, according to the Epidemiology Unit at the Ministry of Health.
