COLOMBO (News 1st): Legal action was instituted against more than 1000 traders who sold rice at higher rates, during raids conducted within a period of two-week, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) said on Thursday (Mar. 04).
According to the Investigation Unit at the CAA, approximately around 100 raids are conducted across the island, on a daily basis.
The Consumer Affairs Authority pointed out that maximum retail prices of Rs. 96 per kilo of Nadu rice, Rs. 98 per kilo of Samba rice and Rs. 93 per kilo of Kekulu rice have been set by the government.
However, the controlled price imposed on Keeri Samba has been removed.
