Suspect arrested in Puttalam for possession of illegal firearm

COLOMBO (News 1st): Police Special Task Force arrested one suspect in Puttalam for the possession of a revolver, Sri Lanka Police said on Wednesday (Mar. 03), whilst emphasizing its that operations in respect of illegal firearms will be conducted continuously. "The Special Task Force arrested a 62-year-old person in Udappuwa in the Puttalam area for the possession of a revolver; 13 revolver ammunition and eight 12-Bore gun ammunition were discovered in the possession of the suspect," Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st on Wednesday (Mar. 03). Meanwhile, Angulana Police arrested a 32-year-old suspect along with a pistol made in Italy. A motor-cycle used by the suspect was also seized by Police, DIG Ajith Rohana added. According to the Deputy Police Chief, the 32-year-old suspect has been identified as an ex-military officer of Sri Lanka Air Force. Whilst emphasizing that Sri Lanka Police are conducting further investigations to apprehend suspects who illegally own firearms, DIG Ajith Rohana urged the public to support in this regard. "We need your support and cooperation in order to conduct these operations. If you have information about illegal firearms, you can contact 1997 centre," the Deputy Police Chief stressed.
