Dam Street Headless Body: Sub-Inspector commits suicide

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Sub-Inspector who was identified as the perpetrator who murdered a woman and left her headless body inside a travelling bag in Dam Street Colombo has committed suicide, Sri Lanka Police confirmed on Wednesday morning (Mar. 03). According to Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana, the Sub-Inspector was attached to Buttala Police and he was on leave at the time of the incident. "Special police teams had visited the suspect's residential area in 5th Mile Post in Badalkumbura to apprehend the suspect. The suspect had left his residence to a forest nearby and special police teams were deployed to arrest the suspect," DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st. Thereby, one of the police teams had discovered the body of the SI this morning (Mar. 03), hanging on a tree with a bottle of poison in the vicinity. The Magisterial Inquiry will be conducted today (Mar. 03) and following the Post Mortem Examination the cause of death will be revealed. Further investigations are continuing. Meanwhile, the identity of the headless female body discovered inside a large travelling bag left unattended at Gas Works Junction in Dam Street, Colombo on Monday (Mar. 01) was confirmed, Sri Lanka Police confirmed earlier on Wednesday (Mar. 03). "Based on investigations conducted by Dam Street Police, the victim was identified as a 30-year-old resident from Theppanwa of the Kuruvita Police area," Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st. However, given that the corpse is missing the head, the identity needs to be re-confirmed with DNA tests, the Police Spokesperson pointed out.
