Organised robbery related to sale of Gold uncovered: Police

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Kurunegala Divisional Crime Detective Bureau has arrested six suspects for the offences of robbery and plunder related to the sale of Gold, Sri Lanka Police said on Wednesday (Feb. 17). The six suspects included a female suspect, who has been identified as the owner of a Beauty Salon in Ragama, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said. "Based on preliminary investigations, information has come to light, the female suspect had contacted several people via phone and social media, informing them about gold discovered from a treasure, which is available for sale at Rs. 9 million per kilogram," the Deputy Police Chief elaborated. According to DIG Ajith Rohana, the interested buyers would then be invited to a certain location, where their money would be plundered. Upon receiving information regarding the organised robbery, special investigations were launched to apprehend the suspects, he added. The suspects will be produced at the Magistrate's Court today (17) and further investigations are underway.
